SOMA Impact Initiative

Project funded by the Powerhouse Grant - Project Completed February 2025

The Impact Initiative is a six-month programme designed to empower young people with essential personal skills that are often overlooked in traditional education. Through five workshops led by local professionals and five associated activities, participants develop key abilities such as personal branding, growth mindset, confidence, entrepreneurship, and social responsibility. In Phase 2, the youth apply their learning in real-world settings by engaging in community-focused projects, allowing them to give back whilst gaining invaluable practical experience. The initiative aims to cultivate a generation of proactive and socially conscious individuals committed to making a positive impact in their communities.

Impact achieved so far:

The Impact Initiative, built on the “Think, Feel, Do” model, aimed to inspire self-awareness, confidence, and action among youth. Pre and post project surveys for each workshop and activity revealed significant improvements in confidence, knowledge, and skill levels gained, supported by an overall programme feedback survey.

Attendance levels were strong, with the lowest at 40% due to valid reasons such as seasonal commitments. On average, participation remained high, reflecting the enthusiasm of attendees, particularly during Phase 2, where they applied their skills through work experience placements. Partnerships with local charities, including Didcot Train, Changing Lives, SOMA, and Powerhouse, resulted in meaningful opportunities, with some participants even securing paid internships.

This programme empowered youth to think critically about their potential, to feel confident and supported, and to take impactful action within their communities. It has created a foundation for sustained growth and meaningful contributions by them to society.
