2022 and 2024 grant recipients

Project funded by the Powerhouse Grant - Grant completes in July 2025

Powerhouse grant funding has contributed to the recruitment, vetting, training, resourcing and support for one year of 10 new volunteer reading helpers to work one-to-one with disadvantaged children in primary schools in the Ox11 area. The project aims to impart a life enhancing love of reading. 

Impact achieved so far:

Schools reporting to us have noted improvements in children’s:

1. Reading ability 

2. Attitude to reading 

3. Confidence and self-esteem 

In addition there has been a positive impact on children’s comprehension, communication skills and their attitude to school and learning in general. There have also been notable benefits for the volunteers involved themselves who gain a great amount of satisfaction from their work.
